ADHD Assessment and Management at Hoppers Lane GP
Hoppers Lane GP is now offering ADHD assessment and ongoing management for adults and children aged 6 years and over.
This follows changes in Victoria designed to improve access to ADHD assessment and treatment through appropriately trained GPs.
What is ADHD?
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect attention, organisation, impulse control and activity levels.
ADHD can present differently from person to person and across different stages of life. While it is often associated with difficulty concentrating or hyperactivity, some people may experience challenges with organisation, time management, forgetfulness, completing tasks or managing impulsive behaviour.
For some people, these difficulties can affect study, work, relationships and everyday life.
ADHD in adults and children
ADHD commonly begins in childhood, but it can continue into adulthood and may not always be identified at an early age.
The way ADHD presents can also change over time. This means assessment considers more than an individual symptom or behaviour and looks at a person’s history and how symptoms affect different areas of their life.
Expanding ADHD care through general practice
GPs have always played an important role in supporting individuals with ADHD. Traditionally, visiting a GP has always been the first step in the referral pathway to a psychiatrist or paediatrician.
In 2026, the Victorian Government initiated a program for a select group of GPs to undergo training in ADHD assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
Dr Saipriya (Priya) Pravin and Dr Josh Cullimore have undergone this training and are able to provide ADHD assessment and ongoing management at Hoppers Lane GP.
This change allows GPs to independently diagnose and treat ADHD in both children (aged 6+) and adults, improving access to ADHD care, and providing an alternative to lengthy specialist waitlists.
ADHD pathway
The ADHD Pathway has been developed by Hoppers Lane GP, to provide guidance to individuals navigating ADHD diagnosis. The pathway is designed to be a guide for estimated costs, timeline, and to allow appropriate time for a thorough discussion, screening and assessment. Care is tailored to individual clinical needs and treatment goals and not every patient’s journey will look the same.
An ADHD diagnosis or ADHD medication is not guaranteed. Diagnosis and treatment recommendations are based on the outcome of the clinical assessment and what is clinically appropriate for each individual.
Stage 1: ADHD Initial consultation | 30 minutes
An ADHD initial consultation is a 30-minute appointment with the GP. Based on your discussion and history, your GP will determine whether a comprehensive ADHD assessment is clinically appropriate.
The initial consultation can be booked online or by phone with reception, and does not require referral or triage.
Stage 2: Comprehensive ADHD assessment | 60 minutes
This appointment is a 60 minute detailed diagnostic assessment with your GP. Please arrive 15 minutes early to fill in necessary assessment tools and relevant questionnaires prior to the appointment.
Booking the assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis.
Stage 3: Diagnostic feedback & management planning | 45 minutes
Following assessment, the feedback and management consult is a 45 minute appointment where your GP shares comprehensive feedback regarding assessment outcomes and diagnosis. The appointment will also include comprehensive ADHD education, support and a personalised management plan, which is developed collaboratively with the patient.
