What is a Vasectomy?
A vasectomy is a safe, highly effective, and permanent form of male contraception. The whole procedure takes around 20 minutes and is performed using the ‘no scalpel’ technique under a local anaesthetic.
What does the procedure entail?
At Wyndham Vasectomy Centre, we provide a no-scalpel vasectomy at Hoppers Lane GP near Tarneit that requires no prior consultation or referral. The procedure involves numbing the area using an anaesthetic. By making a small hole in the scrotum, the vas is then divided with a tiny tissue layer placed between the two ends to keep them from joining back. Further, the end of the tube towards the testicles is left open so there is no testicular congestion.
This procedure is repeated on the other side and the edge of the skin is then clipped without the use of sutures. Once done, the area is kept dry and clean with the help of a dressing.
What to expect from the procedure?
A no-scalpel vasectomy requires as little as 30 minutes to conduct with no lasting downtime. Once the procedure is complete, you can head right home and rest for the next 24 hours. Over the next few days, you can also resume your usual activities and sex. For 3 months after the procedure, make sure you use contraception until you get a follow-up test done.
You can also have your queries regarding what to expect after the vasectomy answered by the practitioners at our clinic near Tarneit.
